project "mall crawler" :p

Recommended Posts

threw in the towel on buying a mustang however i really like this forum and "tony's garage" wouldn't be complete without a random build from the man himself  :P

i hope you guys are cool with the lightweight build and trust and believe i already know it's not everyones cup of tea lol. but here it goes anyway.

the project is just a simple ol jeep tj. 1998 4.0 auto with 116k miles i picked up for $3200. it needs allot of work. runs and drives like a beast. seriously perfect running condition. just looks like ass.

plans:

paint and body (same color) needs some rust repair etc.

complete interior redo.

3" suspension lift

new black soft top

new wheels (already on it now) picked them up today.

here she sits as of 3pm today lol

Why would you want to ditch that pimpin seat upholstery? lol ;)

The wheels look good on it, I almost bought a lifted V8 Dakota for my DD a few years ago (thankfully I saw the light of how the MPG would kill me lol) that had those wheels and they almost pushed me over the edge to buy it.

Is Ohio have gay laws about how far your tires can stick out past the flairs?  I personally like the clearanced tube flairs Dan posted, they can look killer.

My friend was talkin about getting a Wrangler, if he does I'm going to dip it like that for him.  would be badass.

used to think i wanted a jeep until i bought one.  granted it wasn't a wrangler, but a cherokee.  hated every minute of it.  good luck with the project tony.  also to just throw this out there....extremeterrain.com is part of american muscle.  i can't get any discounts for it but at least you'll know what kind of service you'll get.

not sure about the laws with the tire sticking out. i do know they have lift laws. not strictly enforced though.

this thread is useless without air suspension.

A bagged jeep would be sick and piss sooooooo many people off!

Jeep people are pretty laid back, I don't think he'd piss anyone off. I brought up air ride for my old XJ and many people thought it was a cool idea and directed me in the right direction.

Really?

I don't think the jeep people here would have the same opinion.

If i mentioned anything about something non off road orientated they'd chase me with fire and pitchforks.

Welcome to the jeep family lol.  You're going to have a lot of fun with that tony.  Let me know next time you order from quadratec so you don't have to pay for shipping.

btw 3200 is a great price for that jeep!

i'll be ordering more stuff from them for sure so heck yea that will be great man thanks.

2 days in a row i have driven the jeep and passed another jeep and both times the drives did the 2 finger peace/wave thingy lol. thought that was cool lol.

Dam kid you don't mess around! Didnt expect this but killer project and your off to a quick start. Love the seats and like dan Ill say 5.0 swap. A nice 347 under the hood lol Look forward to following this build as Ive always liked the wranglers.. Helped my buddy build one many years ago we actually dropped a new glass body on it instead of dealing with rust repair. Don't know how extensive the rust repair on yours is but its another option.

hard to tell in the pic but where you see the spots along the rocker area and tailgate area is really the only rot. the rest is just surface rust. the guy that painted most of my cars including the mustang is doing the work. $1,800 for everything as long as i get it stripped down. i pan to redo all the black trim on it anyway so works out good lol.

Are you using the spray from LRS or another product? it looks good. @tony

sorry man just noticed this message fiveoh.

how i paint plastic....i have a big bucket full of TSP (trisodium phosphate) and as hot of water that i can stand. scrub it with scotchbrite. rinse very well. when they mold plastic it has an oil on it to keep it from sticking in the mold (what i've read anyway). then i scuff it with 240 grit. then i use a plastic adhesive spray. rustoleum plastic primer. at this point you can use several different paints. i like duplicolor vinyl/fabric paint. never had any issues and the sheen is perfect. looks like it was always black not painted. then i do a couple coats of satin or dull clear.
