Project Deceptive GT "The Reboot"

Recommended Posts

Since all my pictures were lost on Photobucket and I have gone back and forth quite a bit over the last few years with the car, sold and bought another Cobra to make the crazy build, I figured I would just start from scratch.

Here is my 02 GT the day I bought it, 22.5k miles on it and stock except for a catback and neons.

Here is after my first round of mods. Eibach Pro System Plus, 18" Bullitt Wheels, MAC CAI, Simco Gauges, stereo ugrade, Pro 5.0 shifter

26149241009_fb01051ddf_z.jpg

This is after a few more changes, Steeda 18' Ultralites, tint, Mach 1 Lip and Grille Delete and for the most part, where the car unded up (minus spoiler delete) before the rebuild began.

Some may remember that I was doing a Saleen Clone, I sold all the Saleen stuff as I changed my mind. I wish I never went down that road. With the exception of hood, Mach 1 Lip, and Grille Delete the car will be stock body.

I decided to stay 2V so some thins have changed. Hopefully no less interesting.

So, some progress I have made over the time I have had to do some work is the removal of the stock sound deadening material and replacement of new stuff. I used Boom Mat and Noico Liner. When I removed the old stuff I wire wheeled the metal, primered, and repainted the metal to make a good surface.

I mounted the crossovers for the Morels after I had put Noico Liner on the doors. I also ran all new wiring through the car for the stereo and ditched the factory stereo wiring throughout.

Man it has been a while. I have not had the ability to work on the car in a while. A new position at work, time with my daughter, remodeling, and yard work can keep a man busy.

I did go and order a thing that rhymes with CVS. I will get some pictures when it arrives. Hopefully I will get back to working on the car next month but work, work projects, and a trip has my time monopolized this month.

So that thing I did....

Gen 2 TVS, 3.1" pulley, GT500 TB setup and I am going to ditch the Cobra Fuel Hat and order me the Lethal Budget Return System.

So a lot has been happening which is why no updates lately.

I started a new position with a great company and I get to travel.

I decided to stick with a 2V and have a little fun. My pistons, heads, and Tork Tech Kit should be in with the next two or three weeks. As soon as they show up I will be heading to the machine shop. So there will be a lot of upcoming updates.

Here is a teaser of the cams and Valvesprings.

Ordered the Timing Components, Head Change Kit, new water pump, and a few extras too that I researched as helping with the timing component differences in using the Teksid Block in a 2V setup

The driver’s side suspension is all removed. I need to remove the passenger side then I can remove the K Member. Once I remove the K my plan is to scrub clean, prime, and repaint the engine bay.

I am still debating on changing the radiator.

My A Arms and Head Change Kit are shipping.

Keep up the good work!

Hopefully this falls in that category.

Saw Stiffler, but not his mom, and picked up my T56 mount along with new hardware for my K Member, A Arms, and rear control arms.

Speaking of A Arms, my order of A Arms from BMR showed up yesterday. They are quite the piece.

Got the rear end dropped off at the fabricator. They are making certain it is straight, welding the tubes, removing the quad shock mount, and installing and machining Strange Billet Caps. I believe I am also going to add a Swarr Bar or CHE Brace to it.

Looking to sell my J&M Upper and Lower Control Arms and I stead going to buy some BMR Adjustable Control Arms. So if anyone wants a deal on some brand new Control Arms, hit me up.

Also bought a set of Cobra R Brembos. I currently have a stock set of 13” Cobra fronts.

Things are getting warmed up with the build. The rear end is at the fabricator which means it is going to be time to start putting the car back together.

I am ditching the 2 piston 13” front brake setup that I put on the car back in 2011 as an upgrade in favor of 13” 4 piston Cobra R Brembos. I am also stepping up from the stock GT rear brakes to 11.65” Cobra rear Kit.

I also knew that with the 2.3 TVS and power it makes the question would not be if but when would the 10 spline input shaft tap out. So I am upgrading to a 26 spline input shaft and steel TOB retainer.

The next question was what clutch and Flywheel? After researching I decided on the McLeod RXT Twin Disk clutch good for 1000hp and their matching Aluminum Flywheel.

Shifting duties fall to a MGW with their standard handle.

I hope this car will be as stout as I am trying to build it.

Forgot to add pictures of the Tork Tech Kit. I will me making some modifications and personal touches to the kit. Should be only the third person with a 2.3 TVS. Going to paint the pulley bridge. The Steeda HD Tensioner should fit but need to take some measurements to make certain. Also, need to figure out a modification to clean up the coolant crossover.

So, unfortunately I am at a standstill until I can figure out an issue.

I went to mount the BMR A Arms to the Steeda K Member and it seems like we are off an 1/8” or so either on the A Arms or the K Member mounting for the A Arms.

I am hoping to at least get the gas tank dropped this weekend and start removing all the factory fuel lines.

Here is some pics of the K Member issue I am running into. Called Steeda and emailed them pictures. I feel good about them taking care of it.

That really sucks about the K-member. Have they said anything about it yet?

Sorry, been quite busy lately.

I heard back from Steeda a few times. They have been great. I truly believe I would have been treated this good by one other company that makes K Members for our cars.

Anyway, I should be receiving two new K Members next week. I am waiting to here back about a quote on my engine machine work and assembly.

My nephew, father, and I got the fuel tank dropped. Time to wire wheel, prime, and repaint the underneath before throwing the new Cobra tank and FORE system.

Nothing overly exciting this shipment. New OEM COPs. Also new lifters and followers from the GT500 that will help let the car spin to 8k RPMs.

Nothing big to update. I am in Florida with family. I did swap out bypass valves. I got an amazing deal on a Whipple low vacuum bypass valve and decided to take a chance. Got it installed and looked and noticed the low boost valve has one port where the stock has two. I called VMP and they stated the low boost valves only have one port provision. So all good on the Whipple and VMP low boost valves being interchangeable.
