My fear was that old joke about connecting windows to my car that one day to shut it off its first going to ask me if I am sure, then require me to touch both bumpers and the antenna at the same time to turn it off....

wiring has been keeping me very busy.  Getting the wires through the firewall was a pain after I tucked/moved the engine bay wiring but I cussed enough at it to finally get through the mess.  It took a little bit of critical thinking to get the holley harness coming through from the engine bay, and my aftermarket gauge wires that go through to the engine bay meant it took a couple tries to get all the wiring going through the gaskets in the right directly.  I need to get a finished pic as its all cleaned up now but I had to look at the spaghetti monster at this point and wonder what was I dong.

IMG_20161227_025716349.jpg

I am running all the wiring to the glove box for easy access.  I hated the stock location in the kick behind all the wiring and after a short though I realized I don't use the glove box much as is so this would be a good place for it.  I made this carbon fiber panel to mount everything too and thought I had plenty of space.

IMG_20161102_042701549.jpg

After adding a micro relay block, a high current relay for the fuel pump and some dist blocks and a fuse block meant the space filled up very quickly.

5ac238a2-0bf3-4c47-a58d-d69c12750ef0.jpg

I ran an 8 awg power/ground for this panel power to support all the relays and the new ecu.  I also ran 12 awg fuel pump wires and 14 awg fan power wires and wrapped them all in the checkerboard tech flex so I can easily identify them later.  I have been trying to keep everything neat and labeled so I can keep track of them later and also started making some hand drawn schematics of the wiring I have ran so I have something to look over later if needed.

The dist and TCI module requires a little modification.  The TFI is located on the fox body dist and makes for easier wiring, but when installed in my 94 it was quickly obvious they swapped this because the TFI hits the accessory brackets.

IMG_20161203_164128657.jpg

the TFI is mounted off of the 94/95 dist because of this and its actually better because of the generated both by the bock as well as by the module.  They even put a heat sink on the 94/95 version to get rid of heat and we will need to modify it to work on this setup.  What I did was remove the 5/32 screws that held the TFI to the alt and then slid it down to allow for the electrical connections to slide off.  I also removed the stock TFI from the heat sink and it was at this point I saw one big problem.  The heat sink is dependent on the heat transfer cream to make a solid connection between the two or it does not bleed off as much heat as it should.   The old one is dried up but you can tell that there was plenty of paste on it but the new one had a drizzle.  If you have ignition problems you might want to check this out as I have been reading of some heat issues caused by this.

IMG_20161227_220652921.jpg

You will need to use male/female spade connectors to connect to the terminals and of course its important to make sure you get them matched up correctly. I am trying to make a harness here by pouring some liquid abs between the spade connectors and then after it dries I will put a piece of heat shrink over it. I will let you know if that works...

IMG_20161228_154903824.jpg

You also need to modify the heat sink by cutting the fins off where the wires will be ran. I am mounting it under the coil by making a new bracket that will hold the coil up a couple of inches to clear the TFI module below it.

IMG_20161228_155550.jpg

there is an open spot on the dist that needs to be covered to prevent dirt/water from getting in so I made a cover for it.

IMG_20161228_154847097.jpg

Now its just a matter of running those 3 wires from the dist to the TFI module. I do not have the male spades I need at the moment so the finished pic will have to wait.

I think I am almost finished up with the wiring.  I am just trying to tuck the fuse boxes up in the fender and its a case of 10 lbs of shtuff in a 5 lb sack so I can hook power up to everything and other then a few wires under the dash I think its done.  I better get my batteries going I guess but they were put on hold when the chance to get the holley screen came up.  It allows the use of a speedo and odometer which is good for a DD so when I found a good deal on a used/new one I reluctantly got it.  I was hoping to get around their overpriced touch screen but it also came with a nice sn95 dash mount made of metal that made mounting easy.  I have some clear drying on it now after skinning it with CF.

IMG_20170110_123837.jpg

Got the panel in and mounted.  It did not slide in nearly as easy when everything was mounted to the board.

Thanks again.  I can't tell you how happy I am to have the fuse boxes installed.  I had been putting this off as it was 10 lbs in a 5 lb sack and now with the fender on not nearly as easy to install all the wires but its in.

IMG_20170113_152959409.jpg

and for night shows I threw a few leds in it just  cause.

IMG_20170113_153024725.jpg

And with that I realized I think I am ready to turn the key and start the diagnostics on the software so I ordered my batteries and they will be here wed.  I have a long list of little crap to finish before it could actually start but it could be pretty close to trying it all out.

been a crazy two months but getting little stuff done still.  Finally nailed down the vac/boost lines, terminated the power/ground wires.  Got my batteries and built/mounted one of the mounts for them and hoping to finish the other tomorrow.  Looking forward to class at holley in 6 weeks and started playing with the software to set up the starting tune.  Had some family in town that slowed me down and of course the typical puking spell but still trying to move forward.

got a little more work on it this week but it was a case of 2 steps forward and 3 back.  While wiring up the voltage regulator that i mounted on top of the abs unit I noticed that it was going to be hit by the vortech belt.  I took it off and was disappointed to discover that the belt would still hit the abs wire harness and there was no room to scoot it back out of the way.  The option of ditching the abs for a supecharger didn't seem like a good idea so I went about moving the abs from the inside of the frame rail to the outside.

IMG_20170325_161540522.jpg

I removed the abs unit from its mounting bracket because it made it easier to cut/drill/tap the holes for the mounting bolts.  While it was out I also put a coat of paint on it as it was rusting.  AFter that I bent new lines, and discovered I now had nearly no room for the filter  I cut A super short boot from the existing boot and it just barely fits.  Now I need to move the voltage regulator and the ccrm but like I said 2 forward, 3 back, and now I am doing the cha cha.

IMG_20170329_193021257.jpg

I also made hotel reservations in bowling green for next week for holley efi training.

That's how it usually goes in these cars when you add the space requirements for a blower, seems that there are always two things trying to be in the same place, or sometimes three lol.

yup and moving one thing(ABS module) means I need to move two others(the CCRM and voltage regulator).  If it isn't one thing its 2-3 others.  Until this week it had been 6 weeks since I even  went out in the garage.   Started  a new med that caused more problems then it solved and then when I quit taking it the problems did not go away.  Its got better but only now 2 months after I quit taking it so after being sick more then normal it was a shitty time all around.  I finally got back into it this week and the weather has been nice so its been great to be in the garage with some tunes playing wrenching away again.  Moving the ABS module was not all that hard but all the little details of the different flares and fittings took all the fun out of bending the lines.  I just tonight got the last fitting I need and can't wait to turn in the flare tool and line bending tool I borrowed/rented and be done with it.  I took the time to make mounts for them and insulated any areas they might rub with rubber hosing.  You can see the lines going to the line lock that is mounted to the back of the abs module.  Next to it is the voltage regulator needed for the HO alternator.

IMG_20170524_185945625.jpg?1495675553957

On the back side of the regulator bracket is the CCRM

IMG_20170524_142954048.jpg?1495675553958

And now I need a little help.  These harnesses come off of the starter motor wire bundle but I can't find a place to plug them in?  Any help?

Really shaping up! How close are you to firing it up? Sorry I'm no help on those connectors :(

one was an O2 sensor, the other is yet unidentified if anyone knows it but didn't speak up

how much longer?  Good question.  Yesterday I started doing the stuff I really did not want to do and because of that I have been putting off really just because they will be a PIA.  In the short 4 hours that I was at the holley class one thing I learned is me and the expert did not agree on powering it.  I have 0 awg power/ground going front/back with 2 batteries in the trunk, one standard/stock starting battery and another larger one for the future stereo of course with a 225 amp alt at the top of it all.  I ran my power wires to the fuse box I added under the hood and tapped one of the empty fuses for easy use thinking that closer to the alt would be better and there was plenty of room in the 0awg that I ran.  They say it HAS to go to the batteries even though in my case when I do that there will be a few high current amps in between the holley and the alt that I would think could cause problems.  So yesterday I started to rerun the power wire and now I am just waiting on some more wire as this run will be longer.  I think I only have a few more individual wires to hunt/switch, need to install the fuel tank, and as mentioned any left over wire harnesses and details(belts for example) and I should be ready....  If I can just stay healthy and working on it, it could be pretty quick but then as I type that I only had one of the last three that I was able to get out and do something.  The problems my medicine caused have got a little better but its still literally a PIA and limits me even on a good day.

How much longer?  For a change its not me sick but my mom but again two weeks since i worked on it.  She is doing better now finally and I was able to use some of the idle time keeping her company in the hospital to go through the software manual on the holley from front/back.  I also spent it figuring out some minor problems one of which was that the super charger pulley was just barely rubbing on the idler puller of the meziere electric water pump.  I was rather fond of that pump and hated the worst case scenario of putting the stocker back on so I contacted meziere and found out I could buy myself a 1/4" by removing the pulley and rerouting the belt with out the idler.  I was amazed to see how much my allen wrenches twisted before it finally broke the locktight red that the set screws holding the pulley on were saturated in.  even after a good amount of heat they were tough but after taking it off there is JUST enough space between them.

IMG_20170615_161854072.jpg

it looks bigger if you zoom in :)  The tensioner on that belt will push it further away as the belt wears in.  Hopefully now I can spend a little more time in it.

I don't mean to be insensitive or intrusive so no hard feelings if you tell me to buzz off, but I've always wondered and you seem very open mentioning when you're sick and the toll is takes on you... what is your illness?

Car is really starting to shape up.  I can't wait to hear this thing run.  The amount of time and attention you've got into everything... the payoff is going to be sweet.  Sorry that I'm not help on the plug, I'm not a pushrod guy.

The only reason I mention it is to help people understand why it is taking so long.  Chrones disease has taken control of my life and pretty much dictates what I can and cannot do now as its something that ties me down for maybe only a few hours on a good day and on a bad day I can spend days in the restroom.  Tried 7 different GI dr's now including 3 yrs at the mayo clinic but no one has ever been able to do anything to give any real help.  I am just lucky I have a great family that helps when I need it, this week it was nice to have the roles reversed and help mom for a change.

I definitely feel for you and understand the struggles you face.  My best friend has had Chrones for probably approaching 15 years now.  The first few years were pretty ugly for him, though definitely not to the severity yours is.  It really hit him in college when we were rooming together (been friends since grade school).  He did little more than make it to class.  When he wasn't in class, it was fetal position on his bed trying to sleep just to not have to deal with the pain.  I've never seen a human being take as many pills as he was at the time... was something insane like 40 a day.  Thankfully, he never required hospitalization and his is under control these days.  His doctor's are even cautiously saying remission and are slowly pulling him off of his steroids as of his last visit.

yea the fetal position, I know it well...  I take it as it come but happy to say the past week has been better.  I have been planning my final wiring carefully and got some parts in to do so.   I didn't think I was going to use this originally but the digital dash has the ability to run as a stand-alone system with its own sensors/inputs/output as well as working with the holley efi HP. The readings the dash has on its sensors are not used in the tune but there are a bunch of options from fuel gauge to turn signals or temps. I have more then a few extra outputs still open so I plan on using one or two to monitor my amplifier temps once the stereo is installed. Since I already have turn signal indicators ready I am hoping to use the inputs for them for my remote radar detector so alerts will show up on the dash. I took the time to cover all the wiring in blue techflex this time so that its wiring will be easily distinguished from other wiring.

IMG_20170617_180543724.jpg

if you look to the left of the pic above you will see a harness assortment I ordered as well as an extra 10-pin and a 12 pin harness. I have pulled my dash out before to replace the heater core and hope its a very long time till have I have to do it again but I want to try and make sure all this wiring I am running can be unplugged. If you look under that harness assortment there is another relay block as I realized I needed another ignition output for the alternator. I left just enough space on the panel to add another one of these just in case and glad I did.
To make these harnesses takes a special crimper and a whole lot more time then just a crimp/solder connection but once its done it makes for a clean harness to use. The crimpers have the yellow handle and this set you can remove the jaws to add different ends to allow to crimp spark plug wires for example. The yellow/blue is a wire stripper that allows you to set how much insulation you want to strip, then you just insert the wires and pull. You do not need these but they are time saving and always give the same amount of wire with a clean break.

IMG_20170619_153518695.jpg

after stripping the wire you put the yellow rubber piece that makes it waterproof on, and then put the end you will crimp on around the yellow piece. The crimper has 3 different size jaws for different size pins depending on the wire size and when you squeeze it, it does 2 different crimps. One is around the yellow rubber piece to ensure its tight and then a 2nd crimp is done around the wires to make the electrical connection

IMG_20170619_131328513.jpg

IMG_20170619_134442135.jpg

nce the end is crimped its a simple matter of picking the correct hole and the correct way to insert it. There is a plastic pin inside that will lock the pin inside with and later if you need to remove it with a pick tool you can pry it up and pull the pin out.

IMG_20170619_153414891.jpg

and then finally like I said I have been documenting all this crap(that is the best I could call it) so that later if I need to trouble shoot I will be able to know what wire is where. I refer to it as my mustang diary but its my new manual for the car.

I finally got the dash together.  I will need to take it apart to check some wires for the head light knob i am removing but for now I am hoping all the correct wires were tapped to get all the gauges to work correctly.  I contacted Bell escort and got a little technical with them to confirm what wires I needed to use to integrate the remote radar detector into the digital dash.  It will not tell me specifics as far as X,K,KA,laser shifter but will tell me it is powered up and if it does detect something

parts - I needed to add 2 more circuits so I got a 2nd relay block like my first one.  I thought the relays were included but they were not, on back order and should be here early this week.

          - harness tool - I got a few different types of harnesses and I need to swap a couple of wires in one and need a tool to do so, should be here mon/tues and I just hope its the right tool.

          - Serpentine belt, just got a piece of wire out last night and measured it at 65", how much shorter then that does it need to be?  I can't find much online about belt routing lengths with the water pump not being used.

          - I need a handful of 8 awg ring terminals so finish connecting the holley power and to also ground my heads as planned.  I was going to go pay the piper/get robbed at a local shop today but they are closed...

          - I decided to swap over to holleys meth system since the hp efi system controls it better with a dual solenoid system.  I have the spray solenoid but will need to remove the bung the snow system used and get this one welded in.  There is also a driver module I have paid for but it on back order and just checking at it this week it was pushed back another week into july.  The meth stuff will not stop me from starting it if I get to that point since it is a more advanced tuning point I would only get into once the basics are covered and its running reliably.

I am real close to at least hooking the batteries up for the first time in years and turning the key to test a couple of circuits to confirm they are what they are.  Idunno idunno....

I was able to spend some time finishing the tank cover/diffuser.  Masking it up for the red lines was a pia but I like the accent they add.

Now I just need to let the clear cure and then man handle it and the tank into place with no scratches.

Thank you very much I am really happy with this project for sure.  The pic above was right after clearing it.  I could not even use the flash or it came out all hazy.  After letting it cure a little now to handle it I am just as anxious to get it installed as anyone.  I am putting inside the car in the driveway tomorrow to bake it so hopefully I can install it this weekend.

Get this on yet?

oh heck I thought I updated this, yes it is on.  It was a little more of a PIA then I would like but I was pretty sure it would be a pain to put up and not scratch anything.  I can't get a good pic from the back because I can only get about 4-5 ft back before The garage wall is in the way.

I forgot to update this as I hope I am in the final stages of tying up the loose ends before I can start it but its been one surprise after another.  trying to finish up the vac lines, install the mufflers and a few other little details.  I am waiting on a couple of parts that will hold me up and my brother is in town starting this next weekend and that will slow me down.

Nice! I really like the red stripe on the fins.

Thanks that little detail took probably 2 hours worth of careful masking but now that its done I am happy I can enjoy it.

the vac lines are 99% done now, fuel lines finished/installed, air lines ran again, installed a pair of bluetooth battery monitors that look perty nifty, belts installed, Hoses 99%(waiting on one part), and I FINALLY got notice the last piece I needed for the meth kit shipped.  I ordered it in the beginning of june and it said it was back ordered till july.  July came and then I watched the availability date change ever day so that it was always 2 weeks away.   I must say I love how it all looks now that its almost all together.

its getting sooo close now.
