School Me On Thread Sizes

So i'm looking into getting a new shift knob for my car and i'm a little confused on thread sizes.

I currently have a B&M hammer shifter. B&M's website advertises their knobs fit 1/2-20, 3/8-24, 3/8-16 & 5/16-18 SAE threads.

My current shift knob is advertised to fit 5/16in. to 9/16in and it fits fine on my shifter.

Now i'm looking to get another shift knob that has adapters for 8x1.25 & 10x1.25 & 12x1.25.

Is there a sort of conversion I can do to know if it will fit?

First number is your diameter, second number is the pitch if the threads

you cannot get an exact match from Metric to SAE. you'd need to get an adapter. kind of like this:

the idea of that would work but you'd need to go from SAE to metric. not metric to metric like that.

The new handles for B*M should come with the adapters. They are screw in Inserts.

Some of the higher end Euro/Jap shift knob makers will actually use whatever thread you want. I was looking into that a couple months ago but ended up with something else in the end.
