New build thread, stay tuned

Recommended Posts

ive never seen a brace like that (the tie rod looking thingy). what does that do? pardon my ignorance haha

build looks good man, your car is soooo nice

Thanks man. Yeah it's more or less for extreme conditions/ renegade or mondo blowers. How is works is that it bolts to crank and blower before belts tight then you can tighten belt pretty tight with much less stress on front main crank bearings and blower bearings. These larger chargers they spin much harder and faster therefore need more belt tightening. Since I'm using a real small pulley to spin blower max efficiency maybe even further and blow off excess boost with a waste gate I figured it would be a nice addition.

Auto transmissions are 100% foreign to me, had that plate not had the word "transbrake" milled in it I would have no idea the significance of what I was looking at lol

Nice progress man! :thumb:

It's completely new to me too man. Was cake to work on and install but I don't know much else, my brother and I rebuilt an e4od but that's the extent of my knowledge. I'm sure this linkage and other stuff will be new stuff to me

I spy clutch cable. Post 9.5 out of 10.

I have been eying a 4R70W swap and selling off my T56 also. What power levels is their Level 10 rated for?

Its fun to follow a large build like this, keep up the good work documenting it all. I Can't wait till I pull motor on mine shortly so I can smooth out the bay and clean up the motor. That was probably a clear powder on the covers that was so hard to get off. I stripped the super thick factory powder on my intake and it wasn't all that hard. Go get a can of citri-strip from walmart or a paint store. Time is the most important part too make it easy. Put on a super thick coat at night and then leave it for the morning. when I got up the powder looked like it was melting off it and then with a paint scraper and a light sand = no more powder.

also what are you doing with the rad overflow tank?

Interesting on the clear powder. Could be. I used oven cleaner for 1.5 hours and it got some off then next day used paint stripper for 25 min and 220 and cleared most of it.

I have a polished 1 quart over flow attached to my fan shroud that I have had for 3-4 years. I should prob make a custom aluminum polished one like dan because a stock fan looks a tad out of place on this car but the reliability and how well it works makes me keep it there. You can kind of see it in a few pics on passenger side right infront of strut brace

one quart? Seems like a really small overflow tank but if you have run it that long I guess its good to go. I was wondering as I just finished tucking my condenser and radiator into the core support. I love the look except for how the aluminum canton overflow tank seems to stick out so badly and wondering if there is a better/prettier way to do one... I think if I paint it black it will not stand out so badly but not sure.

Yeah I haven't moved into the inside of the car yet to start doing the rest of the mods like shifter and gauges and what not. Can't open the doors completely when on the lift so I'll wait till it's on the ground. They make a few different ones. I bought one that is bullet proof according to them to hold 1100 horse. Then after I got it I started doing more research about autos because honestly I don't know much but I know not many 5 speeds or 6 speeds will hold this power and shift well at 7500. So then I bought the man valve body with trans brake. If anyone buys an aode or 4r70w I have a brand new level ten valve body with two different chips to control it in the stock computer. And I got a level ten custom built torque converter, I bought it for 2800 stall with my old n/a set up with nitrous though since the vortech ys was a spur of the moment deal I couldn't pass up. Assuming stall will increase slightly due to the added power.

Back to the trans install... Since my motor is set back one inch I had to move the center mount of the trans crossmember back an inch to line up. Then driveshaft needed to be shortened an inch. I'm going to run my steel stock one out of my car now until i find someone who will shorten an aluminum one, I have 3 aluminum driveshafts but people want almost 400 to shorten and balance aluminum and the same price to custom build me one.

I dk, one quart is nhra legal. I would love to copy Dans shroud and fan set up but I just got to much other stuff going on still before I take on another project lol.

One other thing I did think about for the winter was to make a custom square overflow tank about 1.5-2 quart and put it on drivers fender so it will cover up the holes from my stand alone nitrous fuel cell.

I think the last driveshaft I had cut down cost me $40. Granted that was ten years ago.

Lol cheapest quote I found was 200 to shorten aluminum. I can get a custom steel 3.5 inch one for 280 lol. Idk if shits just expensive in ct or what lol. Help me out guys lol

Was just curious as I am willing to bet the stock overflow tank was closer to 3-4 quarts. Yea that fan shroud he made its really nice. I am considering trying one out of aluminum just to work on my aluminum welding skills.

Did some little things like put tranny dip stick in and paint stock shorted driveshaft mumy5eru.jpg

Also made up a little meth tank and pump mount assembly for the trunk down inside the spare tire well jy7a9y3u.jpga5ynema5.jpg

And got my 98 cobra electric vacuum pump, decided to shoot it black quick to try and hide it better in the fender well, god it's ugly y5a7y2en.jpga4aga5yt.jpg

Prob mount both tomorrow and try to ring up vacuum pump to valve cover and wire it up

Did some piping today for an hour with the trusty old ban saw a7e8erug.jpghujuzy2y.jpga4uhy3en.jpg9ebu7ara.jpg

Mock up blower inlet... Pain in the ass!!! ydesyzy3.jpg

Going to give this a shot, if it leaks I'll cut off bolt ends use a silicone coupler with an aluminum pipe 90 to connect them me6yjyby.jpg

I need to get a band saw, I cut all my tubing with a cutoff wheel and it blows big nut sacks.

Ebay, Bandsaw Stands.

I have one and it works great with my Dewalt bandsaw

What did I miss? What is with this fitting? Cutting to put more angle in it to clear so you can still try and use the belt drive vac pump?

MMMMM band saw @WildWillyWalker add that to the list of needs for the shop! looks like so tight spaces to but making those bends! what size pipe are you using?

3 inch outlet of blower 4 inch inlet to blower.

This is my -24 an radiator hose. Due to blower being in this new spot I need different fittings. So I have crimp fit fittings so my 90 dollar hose ends are none reusable so going to try and make it work

WOW, talk about tight even though you made space pushing the radiator forward. This is why I am gutting the lower core support, dropping the radiator and angling it forward into the bumper cover...I think.

Did you plumb in a thermostat for the oil cooler or is that the trans cooler?

Looks like you are getting closer and closer to hitting the ignition.

That sounds like a ton of work doing that lol. That is the trans cooler. I've never had an issue with the car running warm. The sheetmetal elbow will be done by the end of the week so I can finish up a lot of the stuff once that's done. I have a feeling I'll be waiting on a custom driveshaft to be made lol. But I'm sure I'll run into more small setbacks. I got a lot to do on the inside still, mount shifter, trans and boost gauges, clutch pedal and cable take out. Hopefully I'll get all the piping Plummed and tacked together this weekend

Awesome work man! Fabricated aluminum porn for sure :thumb:

Wait till it's polished and done. Still need to weld in vacuum port fittings and throttle cable tab. Been like a month in the making. Turns out rolling .125 thick aluminum is a pain and I had to have my buddy do it at work
