Turbo Mustang Burnout

Recommended Posts

I bet the highway cruising RPM is awesome with 3.27's! You can probably get decent mpg out of it

Yea, its pretty nice, about 2200 or so @ 70.

With the turbo and 3.27s I could probably get damn near 30 mpg on the highway if I kept my foot out of it....but that never happens lol.

When did you finish it?? Its sick! How much boost?

In that video its set to 12 psi.

Its been "finished" just working on getting it street worthy, need an alignment, trying to get the exhaust re done to a single 3 inch, think im gonna throw stock PI cams back in it and hit the dyno again for a final 15-16 psi tune.

Lol, vortechs are fun. Turbos are a lot more fun, but remember, the biggest mistake is to get too big of a turbo.

You really want to run the smallest turbo you can for your power goal.

Theres really no need to run anything bigger than a 67 or 70mm on a 4.6 unless your looking to run huge boost and make 800-1000 hp

Yeah mines over kill.. But it looks cool!

lol, all depends on what you want...shit, im pretty sure those new billet wheel 62mm precision turbos have made over 800 rwhp and thats on evos/supras.

I kinda wish I did some more research before I bought my turbo, I probably would have went with that 62mm precision DBB.

Whats the point of running a 76mm turbo if you can make 800 rwhp with a 62mm turbo that will spool 1500 rpms sooner lol

True, I'm going to see how this one acts, and if it doesn't feel right I'm swapping back to my 60mm but this ones. NOT laggy at all lol.. Just may be out of efficiency a tad lol.. But well see

Yea, turbos are complicated.

I saw a 4.6 3v with a 67mm vs a 76mm and the 67mm made more power everywhere on the low boost they were running, 9-10 psi I think. Some magazine did the testing.

But of course that may only be the case on low boost.

Example number two is a 4.6L Three-Valve mod motor equipped with a single turbo kit (again from HP Performance). In this test, the '05 mod motor was first run with a single 67mm T4 turbo. Running just under 14 psi, the motor produced 570 hp at the wheels.

The 67mm turbo was then swapped out for a larger 76mm unit. Despite the fact that the larger 76mm turbo was capable of supporting over 800 rwhp, the motor produced better power with the smaller 67mm turbo. As expected, the smaller 67mm turbo was considerably more responsive than the larger 76mm turbo, offering full boost 400 rpm sooner. This increase in boost pressure earlier in the rev range equates to some serious torque gains. What wasn't expected (which is why it's so important to actually test) was for the 4.6L to produce more peak power with the smaller (67mm) turbo. Running the same boost, the motor produced an additional 10-15 hp. Both of these tests (and so many others) illustrate the importance of turbo sizing.

Well it looks like it was actually higher power, the car made 570 rwhp with the 67 and spooled roughly 400 rpms sooner and when they put a 76 on it actually dropped to 555 rwhp on 14 psi.

Yeah i loved the turbo on my civic (granted it was different but 18psi is 18psi =P) I was thinking id run a 60MM on a 4.3 After im bored with the vortech im just worried that after having a turbo and the way it throws you that the vortech will feel like nothing happening..
