Project Red Bull

Recommended Posts

Bought my 600RR back in July of 2013. Needed a few maintenance issues when I first got it and a 2  mishaps last summer led to the current project I'm doing now

And my two incidents which led to my current project. First one was that I dropped it in a friends driveway, lose gravel and a steep driveway led to me losing my footing and down it went, was not really bad but bad enough for me.

Incident #2: Was riding on the Kangamangus Highway last summer with some friends ( Im sure some of you from the North East are familiar w/ it ) and somewhere along the way I lost the lower fairing on the bike, lucky for me it did not come off mid corner w/ the bike leaned over and sliding under the rear wheel.

So this led me to buy a new fairing kit. Since 2006 I have always wanted the Tribal Orange and I was so glad to finally get one when I bought this bike and my intention was to do the same fairing kit but in the 12th hr just days before ordering it I changed my mind and now that I have the kit I'm glad I did, its looks so nice. This is stripping the bike down and doing some other stuff on it before the kit was to go back on.

Currently I only have the tail section installed. Its going off to the shop next week for the valve adjustment to be done so there is no sense in putting the fairings on b/c the majority of them would have to come off again. I'm having them install the nose bc it is a super bitch to try and get on, other then that the rest is pretty easy. It also has a starting issue, I'll look into that more this weekend but if I cant figure it out I'll have them fix that as well when I have it brought in. I think the Yellow and Red makes it look like Iron Man lol

Installed the Speedo healer today, the paint really pops in the sunlight as well. I need to clean the fairings they are kinda dirty from shipping.

did an oil change today and cleaned the fairings up and waxed them. The photos are before they were waxed and they still looked damn good. Also test fitted the tank.

I'm at the point now where I have no more little side projects to do, all of the grommets and speed nuts have been transferred over to the new kit I did the heat shielding today, other then putting the rest of the fairing kit on I'm out of stuff to do and I cant do that until its back from the shop. They are closed until tues but I hope to hear something from them as far as whats wrong w/ it or that its all fixed and ready to leave.

I am afraid to know what that kit cost as I remember looking at prices to replace the parts on my cbr in the 90s was like 1500 and it didn't have all the dollar-decals that thing has on it.  Looks killer for sure I am completely jealous.

OEM kits are stupid expensive, probably would have cost me 2K or more if this was an OEM kit. A lot of people go the aftermarket fairing kit route b/c of all the different kits that are offered. With OEM all you get is the factory schemes offered by Honda. The aftermarket kits come at a cheaper price and some are a crap shoot as far as paint work, fit and finish and overall quality. I looked into kits for a long time before I decided to go w/ the one I did. Many people go the Ebay route but I dont feel to comfortable w/ that. I read a lot of reviews asked a lot of questions and did a lot of emailing. The kit would have cost $560 but shortly after ordering it I got an e-mail back from steve ( the email service rep who answers all the e-mails ) saying they had re funded my money b/c he said he likes to give back and once a year they offer a free kit to someone which just happened to be me...Shocked? Well you should have seen my face when I read the e-mail. Two days later the money was back in my account. I probably would not have bought the GPR stabilizer if it was not for that.

Weather wise this week sucks at least up to thursday. I work tues/weds/thurs so I'm hoping this week or by saturday the bike is done. They have had it since last weds so its more then enough time for the valve clearance check and to install the new tires but the starting problem is the only unknown at this point. Hopefully they already know what it is and have parts ordered or find out early this week, or call me saying its all done. I'll take any of those b/c the weather is going to turn here very soon and I still have to put the rest of the kt on and start riding and getting some video.

That is wild, and extremely awesome that they gave you the kit for free. Hey @Josh@RideTech you let me know if Ridetech feels like giving back, I'll take some free shockwaves lol.

Even if you had to pay $560 that seems like a great price for the quality of that kit, looks super nice and it seems to be fitting very well so far.

I know the fit wont be 100% Perfect that was expected. There is a small gap at the back of my seat where it meets the tail section, nothing big though. There are a few areas where I know there could be fitment problems at least what I saw from my tribal orange kit but this is a better kit to begin with. Did some playing around w/ my gopro today, cant ride the bike so I did the next best thing :D  I mostly wanted to get a few mins of video so I could edit it and use the gopro studio and get used to it for when I get some riding videos. I'll also start doing some Motovlogs as well. I'll post them up here but be sure to sub my channel :D

do you notice the cam much when your riding with it?  like wind resistance or weight to the one side?  I always wondered that.  seemed like it works well!

I"ll let you know as soon as I actually ride with it once I get the bike back. I heard back from the bike shop today they suspect the ECU is bad. I ordered a new one from a salvage yard in NH and it will be here next weds, keeping my fingers crossed on this one

Stopped by the shop today to ask them about the no start issue since I talked to them when I was at work yesterday and could not talk as long as I wanted. They broke it all down really well for why though thougt it was the ECU, they did all kinds of tests and checking other components and they feel quite confident that the ECU is the problem. The salvage yard is located in NH and It shipped out today so I should get it by monday. They are closed monday so I'll drop it off on weds when Im off from work and hopefully be riding it home right after that.

ECU arrived today, I'll find out later on tomorrow if its the starting issue or not, I'm going to try and get out of work early so I can stop by the bike shop before they close and drop it off and see if it starts or not.

Got to the shop yesterday but they had the top half of the motor apart finishing up the valve adjustment so they could not hook it up to see if would start. They should be able to get to it today so I should know sometime today if my bike is all done and ready to leave or if its not going to start

IT RUNS!!!!!!!!!!!!!  They close at 6PM and I got a call at 5:40. It was the ECU they said it fired right up. They are just finishing up a few last min things on it and I'll be picking it up tomorrow and installing the rest of the fairing kit
