I need some ideas/ opinions

Recommended Posts

So i have a teal 95 with an aode.  I have been looking at the work thats needed and talking to the wife.

It will need the transmission rebuilt or swapped to a five speed.

The suspension needs work.

The axle needs work.

Then there are a bunch of little things that happen to a car in 20 years.

So the wife said to just sell it and buy a better nicer mustang to start with.  I am looking at some new edges and cobras.

I love my car and have plans but it would be nice to start with a car that doesnt need paint or or anything major.

What would you do?

Sell the car.

Rebuild the auto and fix the rest.

5speed swap and fix the rest.

Sorry can make up my mind here. I like any of the options but do prefer a 5 speed.

Thanks

do you like working on stuff? do you have a place to work on stuff?  do you just want it driving with zero flaws?  You said you have plans, so its a good time to throw new upgraded parts at it or start this one off as the project.  there might not be a right or wrong way to go with this one...

Sorry i should have put more in the post lol i was on break and wrote it quickly.

I have 5 to 6k budget to get another car but i would like to be lower then that.

I am a mechanic by trade so fixing the car is no big deal for me.  As far as room to do the work i have space but its tight and makes doing the larger items less then fun.

I am just torn,  I can fix the car over time,  including paint, mechanical, and performance.  Or I can buy something that is closer to where I want to be and go from there.  There is alittle impatience there because i have a big family so time and or funds isnt always there if you get where i am going here.  But like most of us i get fond of my cars and dont always want to through in the towel.

Well I think that you may have answered your own quesiton. $5-6k can go a long way on parts if you're doing the majority of the labor yourself. If you're fond of your current car, and obviously know what you're up against you may be better off fixing it yourself. $5-6k on an entirely different one might just end up with you buying someone else's can of worms.

That is a good point,  I could end up with another basket case.

I was in a similar situation about this time last year. My car was a 98 GT that I bought in 2009. Over the year I had done a lot of work on the car, upgraded suspension, motor, wheels/tires, interior but the paint sucked...

The deciding factor for me came when my Pats system locked me out. I started looking for a roller to swap my parts to. I looked at Craigslist for1500 mile in every direction from Albuquerque for 4 months. I decided I wanted a 96-98 Cobra convertible with good paint. I finally found one for $5000,00 in Phoenix in April of this year, I flew in, bought it and drove it home.

I finally have all of my parts swapped over and I love the new car. I sold the old car as a roller. These cars are cheap enough and there are so many to choose from That if you do your homework you can find a good one.
