Battery Relocation Question

Recommended Posts

Been wanting do do a battery relocation in the mustang for awhile now. My question is DO I HAVE TO get a disconnect switch to be TRACK LEGAL both IHRA and NHRA? Im a little confused. It would make the installation less time consuming and easier and I dont really feel like I need a disconnect switch.

Here is a link to the kit im interested in purchasing

8:4 MASTER CUTOFF

Mandatory when battery is relocated, or as outlined in Class

Requirements. An electrical power cutoff switch (one only) must be

installed on the rearmost part of each vehicle and be easily

accessible from outside the car body. This cutoff switch must be

connected to the positive side of the electrical system and must

stop all electrical functions including magneto ignition. The off

position must be clearly indicated with the word “OFF.” If switch is

“push/pull” type, “push” must be the action for shutting off the

electrical system, “pull” to turn it on. Any rods or cables used to

activate the switch must be minimum 1/8-inch diameter. Plastic or

keyed switches prohibited. Switches and/or controls must be

located behind rear wheels on rear-engine dragsters.

I like the flaming river push/pull switches. I've seen guys mount them down in the spare tire well. You cut a small hole in the bumper for the rod to poke out, and it can even be removed when you're not at the track.

I like that one to.

I really like those too.

Thanks Mike!

Caleb, we should look into this together. lol

I hope to be ordering it soon :). We could install it together lol.

If I could do it over again I would probably do a Push/Pull through the bumper

I've never been a real big fan of the push pull switches for some reason. I kind of like the look of the switch with the on/off label. Makes the rear look a little intimidating imo

Absolutely! lol... Maybe after the HCI swap and the Longtubes, I'll be more even HP wise, depending on what the OPS cams got you to.

By that time I'll have the stage 2s in
