Removing top of tokico struts for coilovers

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I recently got a set of coilovers and tried to install them on my tokico struts. I read on MMs instructions to use a screw driver and hammer and tap the top of the stut off. I didnt have any luck with this and I also tried to drill out the spot welds holding it on and also didnt have any luck. Are there any tips or tricks to get these off? I got frustrated with it so just used my lakewood struts but would like to go with a shorted spring/higher spring rate so Id like to use the tokicos. Thanks

you have to hit it pretty hard, just keep working around the circle and it'll eventually start to stretch and pop the ring off. I'd suggest taping up the strut good right on the top side of the ring so you don't damage it. hold it in a vice if you can with some cloth around it so you don't damage it, and maybe try using something with more surface area than a screw driver.

Alright thanks, Ill give it a try again. I just looked at their install instructions again and it looked like they were using a metal pipe so Ill try something similar to that. I think I was just afraid I was going to damage something
