what cc heads should i go with stay with my current ported 170cc trickflow tw 61cc?

Recommended Posts

Like Title states, I currentley run a pair of the trickflow twisted wedge heads part # tfs-51400004 they are the 170cc track heat heads with 61cc chamber, they are slightly hand ported and gasket matched to lower intake with ed curtis LSX valve springs and a valve job.

I was wondering whats the best cc heads on a all motor 306 c.i h/c/i full bolt on cars, I currentley run those heads with a ported trickflow track heat intake with 75mm tb full exaust long tubes, comp cams xe274hr extreme energy cam, It makes power all the way to the 6200rpm cut off, my ? is I was thinking of selling my trickflow heads to upgrade to a new set trickflow has out they have a pair of 185cc heads and 190cc heads guys seem to say they are a ton better? my ? is what cc head should I run my current compressions is 10 to 1 I want to keep it around the same so these are the 2 heads im thinking of buying to replace my heads with they have diff cc size so didnt know what was ideal for a n/a all motor 306 car.

my current head is this below trickflow tw 170cc (track heat head version of this )

to upgrade to this 185cc head 64-66cc

or to upgrade this 190cc 56-66cc

or upgrade to a pair of the new "high port"fast as cast cnc 192cc heads

I've read tests they show a 30-40 hp gain through out the power band esp on the top end for the 185-190cc heads over a 170cc head.

Get the 11R 190 Street ports.. They are $1569 shipped from Fordstrokers. 56CC. Already have LSX springs and 8mm valves.

Those are the same ones you run? but is 56cc good for a n/a 306 , I know your car has a blower? I want to keep my compression around 10 to 1 I know depending what size cc head it could compromise the compression ?

I just looked them up they say $1,982 for them heads on the site? lol and extra $95 to mill them for more compression? lol hmmm.. thats a big chunk of change $2,000

Personally, I don't know that I'd spend the extra money to upgrade, and instead would probably just buy a blower lol. Is all that money worth 30 horse?

I bought the competition port 205's, mainly for the 2.08 Valve instead of the 2.055 because they're going on a much larger engine. I still think I may have made a mistake and should have bought 225cnc bought hi-ports instead..

It would help alot to know the specs on your motor to calculate compression.. The 56's are pretty small as it is. If you already have 10.1 with 61cc chambers, these should bump you up to around 10.2.

I think you should give Jim a call and talk to him about it. If you had an aftermarket block and could spin the motor to 7000, I think the larger head would definitely be worth it, but, if you are still making power at 6200, you aren't really going to gain much... The 11r's are better than the 192 FAC hi-ports.. But the larger hi-ports will walk away from the wedge heads, but you'll need custom headers for that as well.

Yea I'd just add a blower like stated above it will be fine even with high comp , good fuel lowish boost it will be safe

Run about 8# and be in the low 500s to the wheels.

Or spend that money on new heads, and make 350 to the wheels

Goody_Seven on corral took a stock 302 shortblock, added 11R's, a TFSR intake, and cam, and made 345rwhp with no tuning, so he could probably make about 360rwhp.. that's with stock pistons so the compression wasn't super high. i'll try to find his thread.. OR.. You could take your setup now, throw on a used Vortech, big injectors, and a $120 fuel pump, and dip into the 500's on pump gas... No brainer to me, unless you are dead set on staying NA, in which case I'd either buy a windsor, or get a better block and spend alot of money buying parts to spin it to the moon

Street ports aren't listed on the site.. They are 1569 shipped.. The comp port has a smoother finish because it has more cuts with the cnc machine, but they basically flow the same.

And goody made 345rhwp with 190's.. I just checked
