August 12, 2012:

The latest project that I've been working on was painting my new valve covers. It took me about 3 days to do them (including drying time).

I took a lot of pictures during the process and can make a write-up/how-to if you guys want.

Here's basically a quick rundown and the turnout:

Windsor 13-bolt valve covers:

Cleaned up with soap and water:

Sanded & de-labeled:

Taped off:

Primered:

I like the undercoating, but im not gonna lie, I would re-do those valve covers bro.I know its your first time and you can only get better, but they are reallll orange peely, better to do it now, than put em on the engine and be like damn, I wish I woulda re-done that. Or maybe try adding a lil more clear, and wetsanding it off then polishing it by hand.. be careful of the edges though.

I thought I heard not to do the front as its not the body but a liner or something.

I heard that from a few people too. But I also heard multiple people who did it anyways and it lasted so I just went with it.

I'm not gonna re-do them. It's too much trouble for something I care too little about. I may however, add a layer of clear like you said and wetsand them to make them look smoother.

Undercoating always helps a lot!

Yeah I wasnt tryna hate or nothin, but uh I wouldnt use engine enamel clear...it tends to discolor. Just get some good clear for touch ups or somethin.

I actually did use a touch up clear for the covers though.

i wish someone made a fiberglass inner fender liner for those that are crazy low, the standard liner sags and rubs on my tire at full compression @_@

Why don't you roll your fenders?

it's not the fender that's the issue. it's the inner fender liner that covers all the wiring that goes through the fender area.

oh ok well after you throw another coat on there, i'd wetsand with like 1000 and 1200 try to get the color flat, then maybe go to walmart and cop yourself a bottle of m105 since they sell that there, go to town, probably by hand would be best.

I know, all the cali members do. Actually, every member loves me. I'm just that awesome. Ferocious, take your time with polishing them if you're going to, and give the clear ample dry time before you get in there. Trust me.

If you need to, get a random piece of something and paint it in a similar fashion, so you can practice on it. see how the polish works, etc.

August 23, 2012:

Today I removed the insulation off my car & the hood looks much cleaner now. I also took the time to smoke my foglights for the time being since I don't use them.

Hopefully down the line I can buy some professionally smoked ones, but for now it'll do.
