Det_Riot
Found a smoking deal for a new trans :giggity: and I already had 1997cobra go check it out for me. He said it goes into gear smooth, spins in every gear fine, no shaft play. I'll link the ad once I get off my phone. But its a t56 and I'm going to check it out/potentially buy tomorrow if it all checks out. That being said, are there any inspection covers or plates I can easily take off the trans to get a sneak peak at the insides? The last thing I wanna do is drop 1500 on a trans and have to send it out for a rebuild immediately.

Moderators Psychorugby Posted April 9, 2013 Moderators Report Share Posted April 9, 2013 Nice deal! I paid nearly twice that for my T56 back in 2000 for my 66.

Det_Riot
Awesome link, thanks jordan! Think there's anyway to pop that front adapter off to take a look at the gears inside?

95riosnake
Nice! A T56 would be the only trans I would swap to (be it a factory one or a magnum, I'd be ecstatic with either one lol) from what I have now.
Blackmage
I think the t56 would be similar to the t45, where the front cover comes off with like 10 bolts and holds the input shaft bearing in place and the counter shaft bearing, possibly a couple shims on each also. Not the easiest thing to do if you want to "quick check", but feasible none the less.
Det_Riot
If I do that would I be ableto just bolt it back up?
95opal
Thats one heck of a price for that set up. I still really dont see the need for a t56 in a 5.0 but at that price you cant go wrong.
revhead347
If you unbolt the retainer or the inspection plates they have to be resealed with sealant. If I were selling a transmission, I wouldn't let someone start taking it apart to look at it.Kurt
