double din using 94-98 radio bezel :)

Recommended Posts

thought this may be interesting for some that considered using their sn radio bezel rather than swapping it out for an 03/04 radio and shifter bezel. this is'nt so much a write up, lol. just an idea for some folks :)

need a radio puller, or make one. i used a wire hanger and slid it in the slots to release the receiver and cd player. pull that out and disconnect. 2 8mm bolts to hold the radio bezel along with a couple clips and remove that.

shifter bezel held in by clips. one plug for the aux. needs to be disconnected.

remove heater control panel. 2 8mm bolts and a few plugs.

then you'r left with a gaping hole with a metal brace running directly across the center. you could either completely drill out the rivets and remove...or do what i did and simply cut it in the center and fold each side down out of the way.

ok on to some pics, haha!

first thing i did was trim the backside of the heater control panel to make it fit where the cd player use to reside:

now it will sit flush in there like it was supposed to be there:

of coarse i also cut the center plastic strip that ran between the heater control and receiver. after doing that i now had a 8.5" square hole. the double din was about an inch short all the way around si i simply cut out a panel using 1/4" mdf and use industrial hot glue to hold it in place:

then one quick coat of filler:

then measure the double din width and height. center it and cut out panel to fit it evenly. sand and filler primer. test fitted:

was going to just roll with that, but couldnt stand how far it stuck out. the problem was since i moved the double din up a spot where the heater control panel was it now was hitting the heating ducts in the back :( that fn sucked!!!!! so i just did this:

made a trim panel just simply cut out of wood:

filler and filler primer to mold it in:

sand it all smooth and a couple more coats of filler primer:

now all i have to do is square up the center cut out to be perfect and smooth it just a tad more. paint it and install it :) that will be done today.

pics when it's in. promise :)

so how many of you are disappointed to see an auto, lolol.

it still has a little bit of poke but it's the way it has to work for the ipod port on the side. this is an old double din....like when they first started making 7" touchscreen double dins, hahaha. however it works perfect and i kept it like new so instead of dropping a lot on a new one...imma just make this effer fit.

Sent from my phone using tapatalk

dude i would do this for ya for free, i would def need your car and head unit though. some are deeper and some are wider...etc, be tough to get it right w/o the 2.
This turned out awesome so far, you're getting the gears turning in my head now, damn you!
lol, like you dont have enough shit to do right....i actually need to start my fn bags and swap this pi intake. why i started fn with this i have no clue?????
Tony that looks freakin awesome keep up the good work bro can't wait to see the finished product.
thank ya sir :) appreciate that!

couple quick coats of satin black krylon fusion. might switch to flat...this satin is a little too glossy.

shitty pics but ya get the idea, lol. i def think i'm gonna wetsand it one more time and do a couple coats of flat. not feeling the glossy look it has at all.

i'll get it done soon and post some pics of it complete and installed. i have some billet heater/ac control knobs on the way so that should look purdy good when i'm done. these pics make it look a tad rough but it's actually straight as hell and decent smooth.

Someone's shy about the the size of their shifter handle lol

I'm actually having a hard time finding a 96-98 gt auto coupe in my price range .... All the 5spds are going cheap if they sell at all

it's the door handles, window switches, shifter bezel and ac knobs. rather than painting the bezel body color i decided to try to make it look as factory as i could. - the knobs

I agree with Bryan & Dan, that looks incredible and should have contacted you to make it a factory option ;)

Also agree with MMR, a B&M Hammer shifter will be a nice mod. I loved having them in the '95 GT & '96 GT I had. I wouldn't own another SN95 automatic without one!
