I picked up a roller for $600. Still not sure what direction I will take for it, Choice 1 is put my Mark VIII 4V in it and sell it to help finance my 66 F100 project, choice 2 is find a cheap running 2V motor to put in it to sell it and finance the F100 project, Choice 3 is part it out.

It is a 96 GT auto trans car. The body is about a 5 out of 10, usual faded clear coat a couple of small dents and dings, and the front bumper is crap, Interior is a 6 out of 10, Leather front seats are cracked pretty bad.

And it has some weird contraption panhard bar truss thing on the rear axle has any one ever seen this before or know any thing about it?

dang, i have a spare 2v sitting at home in WI. woulda been perfect to help get it back on the road.

and WTF is that thing on the rear axle haha.  Did you ever find any company markings or anything on it

I have not had a chance to really look for any markings on the contraption yet. Once I get it up on jack stands and can get a good look I will post any info i find With all of those heim joints it looks like it was probably expensive

That is a crazy thing on the rear end. There must be more to it that we can't see up above the gas tank. Otherwise, I don't see how it works without binding up. Unless those upper shackle looking mounts for the diagonal "panhard bars" rotate out on compression. Crazy.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get it up and jackstands  and get some better pics.

When I was unloading the car the PO called and asked if I still had the trailer, he apparently swamped his Audi in the flooding we had this morning and needed a tow. So in exchange for the tow and My 351W that needs a rebuild I am going to keep the engine that is in it but needs a head gasket I am going to do a PI swap on it for motivation.

I think this car is pretty badass! I can't really tell from the picture but maybe the contraption on the axle is an upper control arm relocation to mount them further outboard? If that was set up to be like a watts link I don't see how it could work lol.

So I have everything loosened up in preparation for the PI swap, Just waiting on the gaskets and head bolts to come in. I am not sure how this car was even driveable. The drivers side camshaft  looks like it was retarded to teeth on the cam gear. Here are a couple of pics let me know what you guys think.

Plus someone used about a full tube of RTV instead of a gasket to put the valve cover on.

Here are some more pics of the contraption on the rear axle. It looks like it was some sort of an attempt to make a double acting 3 link suspension.

I included a compressed and full extension foto's so you can kind of see how it pivots like scissors on both sides

Now that I'm seeing the two diagonal bars have that double pivot point at the top, the design of that makes sense. I'd be interested to hear whether it works well or not, but it sure does look cool lol.

Cleaning up the engine and adding a little color while I put it back together. The engine disassembled when I got it so I have had to make a trip to pick and pull to find a few things.

I am going to paint the throttle body and brackets black.

I spent about an hour a few days ago scouring the internet/google images trying to find out what that rear suspension linkage is and who made it, I found nothing at all lol. It might be a one-off for all I know.

I dig the color on the motor!

I have spent several hours myself, as well as my buddy Shannon looking for anything even remotely resembling this set up. Hell even Brett Madsen and his contacts at one of the shop he is getting his suspension parts from are perplexed by this set up.

Hopefully I will be able to finish putting it back together and get it running Saturday. I still need to register it so I can take it for a drive and try to see whay the suspension addition does for it. I will be able to use Shiffy's 96 for comparison

I got most of the engine back together. I still need to source a couple of bolts, who would have figured that the 4 bolts in the front of the PI heads are 10mm where as the older heads are 8mm.. I also need to source an intake tube, the previous owner had a cold air intake and sold it off. This PI swap would have been much easier if I would have started with all of the parts. No matter I should be able to get it started next weekend. And here is a pic with most of the engine back together, and the red is not so loud now

That is th emain reason I did read on the engine/ LOL

matt

do you need an intake tube and stuff still? you said you needed to source some, wasnt sure if you had some locally or what.

I did a little creative engineering and used a crown vic intake and got the car to run, Decent idle, just a little bobble in the idle, but that is probably from some small vacuum leaks. @Blackmage is getting me the proper intake, I appreciate it greatly man. I am glad I got it running though with no major noises still need to hook the exhaust up .

HaHa, definitely @SublimeRT . I have to get some tags on it first. I know a lot of you guys are old hats at this OHC mod motor stuff, but this si the first real work I have done on one, I am quite proud of myself to have it running and can't wait to get it on the road

hopefully some of those vacuum lines will help clear everything up too.  There was a sensor of some sort in line with one of the vacuum lines, the one coming off the pass valve cover PCV valve and going to the back of the throttle body, not sure what it does, but it was hooked up on the 96 motor i had.

I know this is old but I was just browsing Google and stumbled onto what I believe is the rear suspension in this car; ConTex Ultra Sport rear suspension. Old school and very cool IMO. Looks like whoever installed it skipped the coilovers and LCA mods. Here's a link:

Nice find Dan! That is wild. The article really helps. I, too, wonder how well it works.

Edit: According to some guys on the Saleen forums the Contex systems are poorly engineered, overly heavy, and parts were inferior.
