Project Sleeper Stang (SVO blower on Pi heads)

Recommended Posts

Looks great under the hood!

Although I think you'll need to clean up more of the engine bay, it looks too clean in there compared to the rest. it takes away from the sleeper status a little bit ;)

It will get hidden a little better, wires will get dressed better and what not.  In person its actually pretty clean.  Car doesn't really get driven that often and i degreased everything when i had the motor out last year.  Just wish i would have painted the engine bay black.

You've pulled it once before, pull it again in half the time now ;)

lol nooooo don't wish that on me haha.  I really never want to do that again.  Hence why i am not planning on pushing this blower.... for now.

so i feel like a bit of a broken record but... why not do a COP conversion while your in there? would clean the engine bay up a bit. I love how the blower looks on there as well. would like to see the valve covers done in a black with some red accents :)

Idk to be honest with you it kinda feels old school to me.  I grew up around 60s-70s era muscle cars and have just grown to like the look.  And the only reason i didn't paint the vc black last time was to make it look different then stock.  I like them without the ribs but kinda want to buy the trick flow covers.  Here is a little engine porn for ya.  My dads 351c

I personally would not spray the engine bay black. It makes it look like the car had a respray or color change and the person didn't feel like doing the engine bay too.

I'm not now, but I feel like some of the cars I see that do that it really cleans up the look of the engine bay.

This should be a cool swap, and pretty unique as far as I know. I don't recall much about the SVO blowers. I may have seen them for sale in a few catalogs several years ago but it was probably when I was just getting into the hobby. Good luck with everything.

its way after tomorrow. what gives :) im curious

Plans got put on hold for the day.  Between new baby, renting out our old condo, and the foot of snow we got over the weekend i have been pretty busy. I did figure a few things out with it that i should put up by this weekend.  Plan is to try and hit it again saturday.  I need help putting the blower on because of the rtv, and the gaskets.  So I'm limited on things i can do by myself.

On a side note I'm still waiting to hear back from the machine shop about the bracket,  3 days and counting.

you have 1 hour to post photos before i ban you.

At least give me 24 haha

im the king of finding things that are more important. go look at my 3 year old build thread and see how many actual updates ive posted. SOOOO i guess ill let it slide this time ;)

Things come up, and it's hard to justify working on it sometimes when I have a daily and don't really need to drive it anytime soon. I love working on the car but sometimes it's better to have a helping hand then try and do it yourself and not do it right. We are shooting for Saturday morning again hopefully no snow this time so we can actually get it done. I wish I would have taken pictures of the foot of snow I had to remove from my driveway instead of working on the car.

So when using the npi gaskets on the pi heads there are a couple things to look at.  First the npi gaskets have little tabs on them that do not line up up the pi heads.  The easiest way of getting these off is with a pair of pliers.  I wouldn't use a knife or razor for fear of cutting the gasket.  If you take pliers and just twist they break right off.

The coolant ports match up very well, no need for rtv. The only part that does not match up is the runner ports. It is only slightly off and i doubt it will really matter to much.  Definitely glad i went this route.

Install is pretty straight forward, just like installing a intake.  I did run into a few issues.

1. the fuel rail needs to be cut on the front in order to fit. So we removed the old tube and now i will be looking for a replacement.
2.  the coolant tube from the firewall now goes to the front of the intake, so i have to find a replacement for that.
3.  I am having a hard time figuring out some of the pcv lines to.
4.  And last i need a reducer for my CAI.  One that fits the lighting maf to the cai pipe.

Also if anyone has any pics of how they modified the coil pack so the belt wouldn't hit would be great.  Here are two pics of things i can't figure out

And where we left it for the day.

SO! point to first, that thing is hidden like a commie at war.

Second, for the coolant line from the firewall to the front of the intake, my buddy actually blew his hose out and we ended up replacing it with just a length of hose from the autopart store. No idea if there is a part number you can order that's bent the right way or not.

Third, the reducer you can get one from http://www.siliconeintakes.com/intake-pipe-reducer/ just figure out what you CAI is diameter wise.

Fourth, Those two things you're pointing too just look like vacuum lines that need to be connected to the vacuum tree.

have you thought about routing the spark plug wires under the snout to clean it up a bit? now would be a good time for some of those nifty braided ford racing 8mm wires.

Thats actually what the instructions say to do. Problem is it was really close to pinching them, and if i bring them forward it puts it to close to the pulley. do you have a link to the wires?

Ok here are some part numbers for you unlucky people who are doing the swap without the install kit.

#1.  Coolant hose from the front of the intake to the firewall.  You will have to cut to fit.

Next up was the fuel line on the front of the rail.  There was no way to make it fit, even in the instructions it said that it would have to be cut.  But they supplied a new line which i did not have.  Went to advance and asked for 5/16 fuel injection line, and clamps.  Got 2 feet just so i wouldn't lay up short and cut that to size.

The easiest way to put the hose on is to pull the passenger side rail up and over because of clearance issues.  put the clamp on then run the hose through the intake as you see fit.

Next i wound up finding 4-3 in reducer for the maf their also.  14 bucks, so i just got it there.

And here is another shot with it mostly back together.

Now another question for you peeps.  Would it hurt to run little breathers on both vc instead of the supplied fittings.  Just trying to clean it up a little in there?
