BLWNBYU's Its about time build thread :)

Recommended Posts

I've decided to start a build thread on here because I have some big changes coming. I love this forum and what a tight community it is :excitement: I have lost some old pics but I think I'm going to start from the very beginning, September 16, 2005, 4 days before my 21st Birthday, when I flew to Toledo Ohio to pick up a car I searched almost 6 months for!

Flashback...

I bought the car because it had 03 Seats. Back then, they were selling for $2k USED and were ultra hard to find.. It also had the Vortech on a 100% Stock Motor, Eibach Lowering Springs, Tokico Blues, Offroad H, Flowmaster Catback, Clear Corners, 98 Tails, and a set of 18x9 Silver FR500's. The car also came with a 96 Cobra Rear Bumper which is still in my crawlspace lol..

This is a pic from the For Sale ad on Autotrader. The guy was also a member on SVTP so I looked him up.

Paid $9500 for the car with 70,000 miles on it.

Day12 by BLWNBYU, on Flickr

When I bought the car I had just quit school for Mechanical Engineering and was still working at an accessory and audio shop in Bozeman. Didn't have much money but I had my Cobra. It stayed at the shop most of the time and I DD"d the ugliest, most epic escort you've ever seen.

When I got home I put the FR500's on and decided I wanted to build an epic stereo for this car, so I started removing the interior down to the bare dash shell.

Day2 by BLWNBYU, on Flickr

I documented everything I did with thousands of pics but my computer crashed and I lost them all.. This was before cheap external HDD's lol.. I still might have them on CD somewhere.. I should look..

I added roadkill to every panel inside the car, and then glued carpet to the body and panels to absorb sound.. This is quieter inside than my Lincoln.. Something I'm still very proud of this day.

I bought two stinger batteries and installed them in the rear seat area. I didn't have much money back then, but I did what I could performance wise.. First thing I bought was a UPR boostmaster powerpipe. I actually just sold that a few weeks ago lol. Car was making about 10# of boost. The motor remained untouched for a long time.. The vortech had a slight oil leak that I wish I'd fixed sooner..

IMG_0648-1.jpg

After that I built the stereo system that basically remains untouched to this day. I built a false wall behind the rear seats and mounted two MONSTER alphasonik amps capable of almost 8000 watts together. Then I added two sets of 3 way components, kick panel pods, a 3rd set of silk tweeters, and a JL Stealthbox that I hacked up and refiberglassed.. The only thing I've changed is the Headunit, which is now a Double Din Alpine in a 2001 Dash.

While doing the stereo, I had the windows tinted, including the windshield, smoked the tailights, and had the doorcups painted..

Sometime in the first few months I had the car, I had about $3000 extra to spend, so I bought my Cervinis 2000R Hood, S-281 Spoiler, and Sidescoops.

IMG_0829.jpg

Sometimes I miss how clean it was in that pic^^^ So simple..

Christmas 2006 I got black beauty's :)

IMG_1082.jpg

And then I saw THIS car... And new I had to have side exhaust... Even by 2006 SVO kits were HARD to find and I didn't have much money. I was in the process of upgrading my DD to something much nicer.

At this point in my life I got into a Serious relationship and left the car untouched from Summer 2009 until Summer 2012.

The ONLY thing I did in those 3 years was a Differential Girdle..

Then in July 2012, the Throwout Bearing Ate itself and the car sat for awhile..

Finally in November I tore it apart to fix it... Threw in a new clutch I'd had sitting around for 6 years lol..

Now, in fall 2012 when the throwout bearing went out, I was pretty upset with the car.. I honestly think it died from sitting too much.. Car has only been driven a few thousand miles since 2006. In the mean time, I bought a new DD, and spent fall/winter of 2012 getting it to where I like it.

Not gonna lie.. This thing was pretty fucking ugly when I got it.. But LS's can be a sexy ass car. Bought the car with 42k. It's an 02 with one owner. Not one scratch or nick on it.

So.. Needless to say, I got sidetracked a little bit.. Plus, at this point, I was contemplating selling the Cobra. I spent alot of money on electronics on the LS. Added focal components front and rear, 2 Digital JL amps, had the windows tinted, Kenwood's Flagship DVD/NAV, a custom built fiberglass sub box with a JL 10W6, Angel Eyes, HID's, Eibach Lowering Springs, and 20" Jaguar Wheels.

Car now sits like this.. Once again, most of the money went to the interior lol.

Ok.. Back to the Cobra.. SPRING 2013

I got the clutch fixed, but after starting the car back up it had a BAD VIBRATION.. I must have overrev'd it when I hurt the T.O.B? I have no clue..

Anyhow, After some investigating, the Harmonic Balancer Broke Again.. Damn Blower Belts. So I replaced it, car runs smooth, but the Blower is now screeching... God damn it.

So I parked the car again.

After a few months I did some shopping and found a brand new V2 Si Trim on Corral for $900 so I picked it up. This is about mid summer and there was the International Mustang Meet coming up and it happened to be in my home town, so with a friend's coercing, I starting getting the car ready for the show.. Threw the new blower on and everything was good.. FINALLY!

Bought new Depo Projectors

The car show really renewed my long lost love for the car... so now I started doing some motor stuff.. I've had parts sitting around forever. I went to install my Crane 2031 Cam and Tmoss Ported Lower, but got carried away.. I ended up yanking the heads just to check everything out, even though I was getting ready to have a 408 built, or so I thought. The VALVE COVERS have literally never been off this car.. Engine has run strong, and reliably for many many years..

I thought I wanted to do a Fordstrokers 408 with these heads.. BUT, after looking into all the issues that the Windsor will cause me, I changed my mind.. We're gonna go Dart :) 363. Engine should be done around April.

Keeping the Compression pretty high. Around 9.8:1. Gonna spin this V2 to all she's worth on Pump Gas and Meth (which I installed a few months ago)

I was going to get a Black Tricflow R 90mm intake.. But they happen to be backordered. And I stumbled across this beauty on Corral..

Powerpipe Number 2 LOL

11178960504_19dbfe1a95.jpg

powerbypass by BLWNBYU, on Flickr

I also ordered a Polished Accufab 90mm Throttle Body and Spacer.

Since I am going with a 90mm TB and Fox Setup, I needed a new Discharge pipe.. The one I liked the most just happens to be part of the AFM powerbypass pipe.. SO I ordered a SECOND powerpipe. The other one has yet to be installed . Not sure which one I'm going to use yet. I may just switch to a mondo bypass and run the big pipe.

All I need is a throttle cable, IAC, and TPS from a Fox.

My 205 11R's shipped yesterday. So I'm going to actually yank the motor out and try these 205's on my little ole 302 while Woody builds the 363. PTV should be ok, even with monstrous 208 Intake Valves. I may lose some low end, but the cam will keep the oversized heads and intake tame, as well as 4.10's and some boost :)

So. this is how I stand. Now that I'm committed, this car will finally get the parts she deserves.

I have been shopping for a new suspension. I thought I was going to go IRS but, I've decided to run a PA/TA setup with Coilovers and a full Maximum Motorsport setup front and rear.

I actually almost purchased it this week, but, decided I'd better send all available funds to the 363 and get it ready to go.

I'm hoping by summer to have the Dart in and running, pick a fuel system, and find a T-56. Full suspension make over will probably have to wait till next fall/winter now, but it will be done right. I don't have enough garage or funds to do things as perfect as Dan, but, I won't be cutting any corners. If I can find a mig welder to borrow locally, I will get some scottrod panels and smooth the engine bay next fall when I do the suspension. Cars goals are still to be a corner carving beast but be able to knock off a low 10 second 1/4 as well. I'm having the 363 built stout, so if I ever wanted to to a YSI or Big turbo, the motor will handle upwards of 1200 horse without breaking a sweat. Right now goal is for around 650 rwhp on pump.

A guy on Corral just knocked off 784rwhp with an Si trim, 363, and older TW205's, but he was on E-85, which is not available around here, so knocking off 135 rwhp I should easily be able to attain my goals.

Now my biggest issue is finding a T-56 swap that doesn't cost $4500 like D&D's.. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Stay tuned for many pics this week as parts come in :)

Ive had FR's since they first come out. I've thought long and hard and I'm going to have the rears widened and then powdercoat them all matte black like the dip. It is the perfect black. Not shiny but not dirty looking. I'm taking measurements right now for 345s

I wouldn't spend that much on a regular t56. Magnums sell for less then 3k new. Also, buying any swap kit will be a less then ideal setup. You're better off sourcing the parts that you need. Really, all the trans swap requires is the proper bellhousing, trans, trans mount, clutch, reverse lockout, and a driveshaft. I'm 99% certain the AJE's t56 crossmember will fit your car (I have one that id let go of for cheap ), Det_Riot has some info on what bellhousing/ clutch fork combo you can run, and I had my driveshaft made for like $300 at DTS (which I would not recommend dealing with them). Also, make sure you're getting the gear ratios that you will be happy with. Another nice thing about the magnum is that it has provisions for your gear driven speedo pickup.

Oh neither would I. T-56 Magnum will be my only choice and I'd like the .50 6th gear. I have 4.10's right now but those will probably have to be swapped for 3.55's or so.

It's -20* out right now and even though my garage is insulated and attached to the house, it's just too fucking cold out there lol. Teardown begins tomorrow. I have a bunch of parts arriving this week and really only need a foxbody throttle cable!
